"THIRTY-SIX YEARS AND COUNTING… I am an 84-year-old widower, who settled in Glenfield with my wife in the mid-1980s and was pleased to find an excellent dental care practice on the doorstep.
In my teens and twenties, I had neglected my teeth, only visiting the dentist for a filling or an extraction. I got organised prior to moving to Glenfield, had a denture plate with four teeth, several fillings and was visiting a dentist for twice yearly reviews. My wife and I joined Glenfield Dental Practice in 1986 – no hygienist service in those days, just the annual check-ups and any resulting treatment.
That arrangement served me well, my original denture lasted some sixteen years. I had it replaced at Glenfield and after ten years I switched to having that replaced with a combination of crowns and bridging. As a testimonial to the effective check-ups and hygiene treatments in the 2000s, I have had only two fillings and lost two teeth in my time at Glenfield, one lost being replaced with a bridge/crown fitting.
This last item followed a two-hour dental surgical operation carried out at the practice to save the tooth and clean the jawbone which had been infected by the tooth problem. This was successful and lasted some five years, but the root cracked, and it had to be finally removed.
Covid raised its head as I was recovering, and for the next fifteen months it was a case of “call me gappy”.
After Covid, we went ahead and replaced the tooth bridged to an adjacent one.
Overall, the practice has provided all the levels of dental care that I could wish for.
In 2020, after Covid, they introduced a detailed care plan on a per month subscription basis comprising of quarterly hygiene treatment and twice-yearly dentist reviews. The cost of this service on a four-week month is approx. Five pounds per week – in my view highly recommended."
