Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening lightens the natural shade of your teeth to give you a whiter, brighter smile.  Here at Glenfield Dental, we use two of the most popular and reliable whitening products – Enlighten and Boutique.

After an initial consultation with your dentist, whitening trays are created from moulds of your teeth and shaped for a snug and comfortable fit to help you achieve the best results.  It’s vital that you follow your dentist’s instructions to minimise common side effects of whitening, such as sensitivity.
It’s important to note that whitening only works on natural teeth, so if you have crowns, veneers or composite fillings, your dentist will advise you on how to get the best results possible.

So, what’s the science behind teeth whitening

The active ingredient in whitening gels is peroxide – carbamide and/or hydrogen – and when the peroxide naturally breaks down, oxygen is released and absorbed into the tooth enamel, lightening your teeth.

Most people will achieve the shade they desire within around four weeks, and each whitening product requires different contact times, so remember to follow the instructions you are given!

Oral hygiene is very important during whitening, as the whitening gel will only work on direct contact with your tooth enamel, and any build-up of plaque and tartar can hinder your progress.  You can book in with one of our lovely hygienists, who will give your teeth a thorough clean, ready for your whitening treatment and they’ll also give you advice on how to maintain and fresh, healthy mouth.

Teeth whitening is the process of using whitening gels to make teeth look whiter. Teeth can discolour for various reasons and the whitening process removes stains or other discolouration from the tooth surface. We offer expert professional teeth whitening, contact us to make an appointment to discuss your treatment.

Our dentist will recommend the ideal whitening method, either Boutique or Enlighten, based on your oral condition after a dental examination to establish the cause and nature of your tooth discolouration.

We will also provide you with more information on the various types of whitening procedures available, duration and frequency of treatment.

How white will my teeth be?

It is important to realise that everybody’s teeth respond differently to teeth whitening treatment since there are so many factors that determine the final outcome.

However, regardless of the individual, everyone will see an improvement in their initial shade and overall brightness of smile.

Please note that crowns, veeners and fillings do not change colour after whitening, so these may need to be changed if you want them to match your brighter new teeth colour.
